i bought a cheap secondhand laptop… re-installed windows xp. internet working fine through network card ( cable ) went to windows update and updated windows.. now i cant connect to the internet for anymore than about 20 seconds… i’ve changed the ip address the name, re-installed the network card in fact everything i can think of. including turning off firewall etc etc etc .if i do a system restore and remove the windows updates it connects to the net just fine… i’ve turned off auto updates for the mo but i’d quite like it properly updated. i tried a usb wireless adaptor thinking it may be the network card but it still does exactly the same thing..

anyone got any ideas? i’m at the end of my fuse with it now.. all my other laptops and computers work fine on the router so i know its not that!!!
