RAM quantity: Vista vs XP

I currently have 2gb of RAM in Windows XP, and am pretty satisfied with it, I feel it is plenty.

I am thinking about upgrading to Vista (I have a legit copy collecting dust). I also have an extra gb of RAM that I can put in my system.

If I upgrade to Vista,
and put my additional gb of RAM in, will I be satisfied with 3gb of RAM in Vista just as I was with 2gb in XP?

In XP, I make good use of both my X2 cores, I do a lot of multitasking, a lot of DVD encoding, and gaming. I don’t usually run into a RAM shortage, there always seems to be enough to run all the apps I want at any given time.

I am worried that what might be a plentiful amount of RAM in XP will be a mediocre amount in Vista.

Any insight?
