I was earlier today reading a topic on hacking (not that i am a hacker of course). I found they can connect to your computer through ‘file and printer sharing’ using NetBIOS. I followed a simple tutorial and decided i wanted to see if i can get into my own computer, just to see if my security is good enough. :wub:

So i went on a friends computer and ‘ping’ed myself using my IP Address. I have outpost firewall pro 2009 and a result (No packets recieved)
Then I turned outpost firewall off and recieved all the packets sent…
After pinging my PC and recieving data from it i decided i will try to hack using NetBIOS. This was my command:

nbtstat -a <myipaddress>

This is supposed to bring up the NetBIOS remote machine table, however it brought up ‘Host Not Found’.
My friends computer is not connected to mine using a server or anything, infact its not connected to it at all, only through internet.
Does NetBIOS only work on a local computer network (i.e. several computers connected to each other via a server?) :confused:
Or do you just need an internet connection, or am i doing some commands wrong, i really would like to test my security, can anyone help?
