Restoring to factory settings, Presario F500

The problem with my ‘Presario F500′ laptop is that it’s slowed right
down, some files I’ve saved somehow disappear and I cannot turn on
the Wireless Assistant so that I can access the internet. When I
double click on the ‘HP Wireless Assistant’ icon, nothing happens,
the switch on the front of the laptop is in the ‘on’ position but
the light remains amber (or red).
I’ve tried re-installing the wireless assistant from the ‘Recovery
Manager’ then after I restart the computer, the problem remains the
same.
What I’d like to do is, to restart the computer to it’s origional
factory settings, (I’m aware I will lose all documents, photos etc).
Unfortunately, I did not make the necessary recovery discs when I bought
the laptop.
What I’ve tried is, going into the ‘Recovery Manager’ upto the page
where it asks ‘Would you like to recover your computer to it’s
origional factory condition?’ I click on ‘yes’ then ‘next’ and the
computer automatically restarts, but it restarts as it normally does,
and hasn’t restored to it’s origion factory settings.
I was told by a friend to keep tapping on the ‘F11′ key at start up, but
still, nothing happens, except starting up as normal.
The laptop is only about 8 months old, bought as new from PC World.
Please can you provide any assistance to this problem, as it’s beginning
to drive me mad!
